Exceptionally rich in art
and archtecture, Kathmandu Valley is the political and
commercial hub of Nepal. It is spread across 360 sq Kilometer,
comprising of 3 Royal cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. They
share 7 World Heritage Sites among them.
According to the
legend, Buddhist saint Manjushree cut a passage through
the surrounding hills and drained the
primordial waters bringing the valley to life. Today,
Kathmandu houses most of Nepal's ethnic groups where
Newars are regarded
as the original inhabitants. This community is the
major contributor of the valley's art, architecture,
and cultural
wealth. Perfect blend of Hinduism and Buddhism is reflected
in numerous monuments, temples, and sculptures situated
across the valley, which further echoes in the daily
lifestyle of the people.
In late 18th century, following the unification of
Nepal, Kathmandu was made the capital. Today, notwithstanding
rapid mordernization, it still lives the tradition of
simplicity, love, harmony and friendship.
This valley always fascinates travelers seeking authentic
cultural experience
